TWD: Kids' Thumbprints

Kids' Thumbprints

Well, after nearly 4 years, it's the last hurrah for Tuesdays with Dorie. Today we are sharing the final recipe from the book, and fittingly, Dorie herself is our host. Like so many of my favorite recipes from Baking, this one was simple but delicious. Little peanut butter thumbprint cookies filled either with jam for a sweet twist on PB&J, or chocolate, for those of us who are powerless to resist the peanut butter and chocolate combo. I crammed little mini peanut butter cups into my cookies since I had some in my pantry, and Shane and I both really enjoyed them. The cookies don't stand a chance of lasting through the week, even with all of the other sweets hanging around. You can find the recipe for these cookies and a really wonderful wrap-up on Dorie's site.

Kids' Thumbprints

Back in 2008 when I joined Tuesdays with Dorie, I'd only just started to experiment in my kitchen. I had little to no experience baking, but with each passing week, I gained confidence with Dorie acting as a teacher through the words in her book, and the other TWD members the most supportive friends one could hope for. Today, the kitchen is my happy place - it's where I spend a majority of my time each week.  Whether I'm making meals for Shane and myself, or creating treats to share with friends and family, it's always time well spent.

So, I owe a huge thank you to Dorie, not only for writing this book which brought so many of us together, but also for her support of this group over the years.  I had the privilege of meeting her last year, and she truly exceeded all expectations.  Thank you also to Laurie who founded the group, and all those who have helped her to keep it running all this time.

Kids' Thumbprints

A new group will start working its way through another of Dorie's books, Baking with Julia, in February, and while I won't be baking along with them, I know I'll check in on their blogs and follow along when I can. The friendships I have forged through my participation in TWD have been the highlight of the experience for me, and I know these friendships will last for many years to come.

I love the idea of peanut butter cups in these cookies - never enough pb, especially with the chocolate!

I've enjoyed the group, and your friendship - virtual and in person! - and the weekly rhythm of Tuesday posting and reading blog posts. We'll continue our contact no matter what!

Cookies look great, but they seem to be missing their nuts...hmmmm...not like I thought that there WOULD be nuts on these, since I know how you feel about nuts, but I thought maybe there might be on some that you were gifting around. No matter, they look great nutless. (I know that is not a word, but I couldn't resist.) So happy you baked along with me all these years...it's been such fun. Not baking with the new group? We shall see, we shall see...we have powers of persuasion that we have not yet used on you. You have been warned. :-) I think I can count on Shane to be on my side in this matter...he likes to eat baked goods and so do his co-workers. The list grows.

Its been such a pleasure getting to you know. I consider myself incredibly lucky to have 'met' the most interesting, supportive and creative folks out there through TWD. While I am sad that you will not be joining us on the next adventure, I will be keeping tabs on you through my trusty google reader. Much love.

I enjoyed reading along with many of those cooking along with the group. It was interesting to hear everyones take on each recipe. I can totally understand why these cookies would easily vanish! I bet the kids would enjoy making them as much as eating. :)

Mini peanut butter cups are a terrific choice. Must try that. I always enjoy seeing the recipes you try, and I'll keep on reading in the new year.

What a perfect ending for such a long and rewarding journey. It's hard for me to believe you weren't always such an expert in the kitchen, but this group's gifts have been plentiful. Kayte can be persuasive, so watch out for her or you'll be ordering the book on Amazon like I just did!

Ooh, nice! The mini peanut butter cups are a perfect choice. Congrats on making it though!

It's been great following the TWD bakers. Hard to believe it's over! Congratulations on nearly 4 years of baking. Very impressive.

Your thumprints are so cute with the little peanut butter cups. I still have some of those in my pantry to use up. ;) These look perfect for my neices and nephews.

Peanut butter, peanut butter, and chocolate...but of course! But really, I would never have guessed that you started TWD without much kitchen confidence, because I've always gotten so much inspiration from your posts! I often think, "If Tracey likes it, I probably will too." I look forward to reading many, many more posts from one of my favorite TWD bloggers.

I've enjoyed reading your posts and do hope you'll reconsider and at least occasionally post with the new group. Or at least bake along! Happy Baking in 2012.

Your thumbprints lookmlike perfect little cookies. I like how you added the extra dose of peanut butter by sticking a peanut butter cup in the center.

Great idea to go with the mini peanut butter cups. I thought about using Hershey kisses, but my grocery store was wiped out of both the holiday ones and the regular ones! I was surprised to find that I actually liked the jam-filled ones quite a bit.
